BISDAK

BISDAK is an endearing term for a Cebuano.

BISayang DAKo means true Bisaya.  Bisaya is the dialect spoken in Cebu and neighboring cities and provinces in Central Visayas, Philippines.  BISDAK is more associated with Cebuanos than with any other Bisaya speaking group in the Philippines.

There is no other group in the Philippines who lobbies and is not ashamed to use the Bisaya dialect.  Cebuanos prefer Bisaya over any other dialects spoken in the country.

Common Bisaya phrases/words/greetings:
How are you?  - Kamusta?
Good morning! - Maayong buntag!
Good noon! - Maayong udto!
Good afternoon! - Maayong hapon!
Good evening! - Maayong gabii!
(need I say that "maayo" means good?)
Where are you? - Asa ka?
What are you doing? - Nag-unsa ka?
Who are you? - Kinsa ka?
Me / I - Ako
You - Ikaw
Girl-friend - Amiga
Boy-friend - Amigo
I like you. - Ganahan ko nimo.
I love you - Nahigugma ko nimo.

What words would YOU like to know?

You're Cebuano if...

This blog is inspired by surveys coming out in Facebook asking "You're Cebuano if...." which elicited responses from Cebuanos all over the world.  Truly, home is where the heart is and for me, CEBU is HOME...

So, you're Cebuano if:
You know what BISDAK means!
You love ginamos and buwad!
You are isog (Bisaya word for brave)!
You love balbacua and native chicken!
You know Yoyoy Villame and Max Surban, and sing their songs, too!
You know about Si Goot da Wanderpol and Teban and Goliat.

So are you Cebuano?
